Almost everyone wants to consume less sugar these days in their diet but it is not always easy to do and you also want to be satisfied so you stop craving sugar.
Here’s some tips for your morning breakfast and hopefully if you get breakfast right good eating will follow for the rest of the day.
Tip #1. Start with a great cereal. Not only should it be low in all sugars – it should also be full of whole low processed wholefood ingredients, not cereals or “wholegrains” that have been stripped of their nutritional value. The benefit of eating wholefoods is that it will take your digestive system longer to extract the goodies, maximising the efficiency of digestion and keep you fuller for longer and at an even energy level. By eating my cereals you will be fuller for longer and you will also need less. Which brings me to my next tip.
Tip #2. Use a portion cup – don’t pour your cereal out. By using a portion spoon you will serve up the correct amount. You could easily pour twice you need and over eat once it’s in the dish – you will either over eat or throw it out and neither of these are good options.
Tip #3. Choose your cereal accompaniments wisely – go for a plain low sugar yoghurt with no sugar or fruit listed in the ingredients, Ideally less than 5% in the nutritionals and top with a low sugar fruit such as berries. Either slice them up – or if you would like a yummy Strawberry compote try this recipe below:
Ingredients:
1 punnet of strawberries
2 Tablespoons water
1 Tablespoon Basil Seeds – you could also use chia seeds but basil seeds are nutritionally superior with high protein and high iron
1 Table spoon raw sugar or maple syrup or honey or rice bran syrup ………..whatever floats your boat 😊
Method:
Slice up the strawberries and place in a pot with all the other ingredients, gently bring to the boil and once it has thickened take off the heat and pour into a dish to cool.
Once cooled enjoy with your cereal and yoghurt.
